Great Grandpa's Visit

On Valentine's Day Grandpa came into town to visit. Carter was very excited to meet his Great Grandpa, even if he was feeling under the weather. Over the couple of days we did lots of fun things together.

I met Cosmo...

 Grandpa and Carter hanged out...

We ate pizza (of course not Carter :))...

Carter learned air hockey...

and Carter learned DDR

Carter also learned pool, but sadly the picture wouldn't load. We had a great time with Grandpa and can't wait for him to come again.

Mission Dresser

The mission if John decided to let me accept was finding Carter a dresser. (My cousin Noelle was nice enough to give us one but the drawers kept falling off the track and it was driving me crazy so he really needed a new one). My budget was $400, Salt Lake area, and my deadline was before my sanity ran out with the old one.

My first sighting of the perfect dresser was about a week and a half ago when we went to Costco. There it was standing there acting all causal as I pulled John over to only get a nonchalant shrug. Since his excitement level reached a 1 I decided that better dressers might be out there.

I searched the web, trying to find anything else but realized that I had to get the one at Costco. So the next day I told John to go to Costco after work and I would meet him there. Being so excited I got there early only to discover that they had sold out! I couldn't believe it! My precious dresser was gone. So I was devastated and over the weekend we looked at some other stores. Nothing could compare to that perfect dresser.

Yesterday I decided that my target was the Costco dresser and I had to find one if there was even a chance of getting one. So first I drove down to Orem, only to be let down. But today I drove to the Sandy Costco and there it stood! I was so excited! There were two left and it was cheaper than the Lehi one so I called John and he said we could get both (since we don't have a dresser either). I was so afraid to even leave the dressers but I went to the front and asked if I could buy them now and get them later and they said yes.

Mission accomplished! It sounds pathetic, but when I have decided I want something, it is practically all I can think about until I get it or I can't find it. But doesn't it look great?

Ice Cream!

For Valentine's, John and I went out to dinner and to the playhouse Desert Star. They did a parody on the Lord of the Rings. Overall I enjoyed it and John loved it. On Valentine's day my grandpa was in town (future post) and we went to Thai Village for some delicious Thai food and then Cold Stone for dessert.

For gifts John gave me a wonderful flower and amazing chocolates. I got him an ice cream maker! So I was really lame and couldn't keep a secret until Valentine's so I gave it to him two days early. Despite giving him his gift early, we just got to making ice cream today.

(We used raspberries we picked ourselves.)

(Don't you love this picture of John?)

We made white chocolate raspberry and mint chocolate chip. We were like giddy little children as we watched the ice cream turn in the machine. We were so nervous that it wouldn't work out, or worse, not taste good. But as time passed it thickened and we think that it is yum!

John loves ice cream so I thought this would be fun and so far it has been! We haven't tried the mint because it is spinning right now, but I'm sure it will be good.

(We died the mint light blue instead of green, just to be different.)

I see many new ice cream flavors in our near future. I really want to try cake batter and banana toasted coconut!

Grand Canyon

This year for our vacation we decided to go to the Grand Canyon. Thinking of Carter crying in the car for 8 hours doesn't sound very appealing, but we decided to not let Carter stop us from doing things we have wanted to do. Especially since a wonder of the world is within driving distance, we can't pass it up, plus I've always wanted to go.

Activity wise, we have decided not to go water rafting, ride down the canyon on a mule, or hike ten miles to the illusive Havaspai falls (pic below), since Carter is too small, but we are going to have fun regardless!

We plan on doing some short hikes, riding the shuttle, playing in the hotel pool, and just taking it easy. Despite being limited, it is going to be our first family vacation! Desperately excited to see this...

Anyone have a must see?

Super Bowl

I'm not a big fan of football (unless it is BYU) so the Super Bowl doesn't mean much to me, but I happen to take a few pictures yesterday.

This was before church when John and Carter were watching Pocahontas and I was making desert for the Super Bowl.

This is me and Carter, I'm so proud I can fit into this skirt again (even though you can't really see it).

I was in charge of dessert and I made cream puffs and Rollo Turtle bites.

We had a blast at the Bainbridge house. They had so much yummy food and I enjoyed watching the Super Bowl commercials. I think the Oreo one is my favorite.

I didn't pack Carter's football pjs, so I put him in it when we got home.

I think Carter enjoyed his first Super Bowl, even though he slept through most of it.

Eye Surgery

As many of you know I was born cross eyed. To help fix the problem I had surgery when I was one and three. Since then my eye have started to drift off and the official term I have now is strabismus.

Because of this I've had problems talking to people. They think that I'm not looking at them. Although while I was teaching, I would give the "stop doing that look" and five students would stop misbehaving since they didn't know who I was looking at.

I always knew I would need to get another one, but I've been scared to do it for years. For one, it is surgery on your eyes (super scary), and I was too lazy to deal with all the insurance red tape.

So last year I finally got up the courage to go in and see what could be done. To my surprise they said that I could get it fixed with surgery no problem and then I would have 20/20. So we set up a follow up visit and I was super excited to get it fixed finally. Then I found out I was pregnant and had to put it off.

Now, one year later I finally have it set up. I'm still really nervous since they are doing both eyes, but John (who had the surgery one eye) said it isn't that bad. Apparently I won't be able to see very well or at all the first day, I won't be able to drive for a couple days, and my eyes will be itchy for a while, but it is worth it to fix my eyes.

FYI: totally keeping up my ab workout so far!!!
