Baby Registry

John and I just spent 2 hours at Target creating the baby registry. It started off horribly when a guy asked when we were getting married! Come on, I though I was out of the fat stage! So that hurt my feelings a little bit, but once we got started we had a blast.

We obviously had no idea what we were doing and everyone who heard us struggling smiled and said something to the effect, "We were like that too," or "You will know soon enough." I wanted to reply, "Just tell us what to get!"

Then we got to the bottle and binky aisle. Do you know they have an aisle just for those two things? Talk about overwhelming! We got a binky that is a thermometer (which we thought was pretty cool) and John insisted we just use that one all the time. For some reason I thought that was the funniest thing and laughed so hard I was crying, and that is when I realized we had spent too much time looking at baby stuff.

We might not have everything that we need to have a child, but I will tell you that he will be dressed cutely! We registered for A LOT of really cute clothes! This is my favorite outfit!

it comes with this hat!

The point is that it is done, and hopefully we won't have to return much or anything. Tomorrow we are off to register one more place and then we will call that good.

32 Week Appointment

Today I went to the doctor for my 32 week appointment and I spent my usual 2 minutes in the office with the doctor before saying that he would see me in two weeks. But these are some interesting things that happened during the appointment.

#1 The doctor said that in a couple days I can say that I'm due next month. I had to think about that for a while before I realized he was right and that freaked me out a bit.

(I could have a Halloween baby, bur probably not.)

#2 They handed me some papers talking about false contractions and then a huge packet about depression, that is comforting.

#3 The nurse told me that the baby should be moving about ten times every two hours, so I've decided our son in already hyperactive since he has to be doing at least double that!

Also, when I went to the bank the teller asked when I was due. She has been the first stranger to ask me and it caught me off guard. I'm happy to have officially passed the possible fat stage and definitely pregnant stage!

First Day of School

Today was my first day back at school. Working at a Junior High is great in many ways and very interesting in other ways. The staff there is amazing and I love them all, which makes going back to work easier. I missed sleeping in, but I also missed my daily laugh at these poor students. I didn't work with too many students today, but these are some things I heard in passing.

Do you need to bring money to get lunch or do you just get it?
Why would anyone need an elevator in a school?
"I'm late to class," which we finally realized meant "I'm lost and can't find my class, will you help me?"

Summer Check List

This summer represented the last free months that John and I had together before the baby gets here. At the beginning of the summer we really wanted to go on a cruise but knew that wasn't going to happen. So we made a list of all the things we wanted to do and I think we have done pretty well.

#1 Seven Peaks

We made it to seven peaks twice and loved it. Nothing can beat the lazy river, but I did miss riding the slides. John stayed with me even though I know he wanted to go on the slides, what a guy!

#2 Finish the Nursery

We still don't really have much for the baby, but I did get the painting done for the nursery and that is what I really wanted to get done.

#3 Float down the river

We floated down the river a couple weeks ago taking full advantage of living next to the river. Very fun!

#4 Blaze Game

I'm not a huge fan of indoor football compared to the real thing, but it is really fun to see John all fired up.

#5 London Olympics

I was really excited for the Olympics and I watched as much as I could.

#6 Finish the Yard

Our yard isn't very beautiful, but we have grass growing, two trees, and a bush. Next spring we will try and improve it, but it was an accomplishment enough to get this much done.

Tomorrow we are going to the Zoo which crosses almost everything off the list. We haven't made it to an Orem Owlz game or a demolition derby (they were all sold out), but I think we had a pretty amazing summer!

Hope you had a great summer too!!

Baby Needs vs Wants

While trying to overcome my fears of having a child I've started to do some shopping now that I'm at 31 weeks. What I've discovered is that there is a lot of baby stuff, and a lot of it is pretty expensive. I know some of it is just preference, but I'm interested to know what your must have list for having a baby is. This is some of what is on my list so far.

#1 Crib

We have picked out the crib and is basically our only item so far.

#2 Stroller/ Carseat Combo

I've not picked one out yet, and the options seem endless, any ideas on how to narrow it down?

#3 Baby Swing

My mom said that this was a must, which I thought she meant for when he is older. Today when I was talking to her though she said to get it right away, glad I asked!

#4 Bodysuits/ One Pieces

Which I will need to get sometime in the near future.

#5 Dresser

Not this one, but it is cute!

Now, the super controversy John and I are having is about a bassinet. What did you do?

So that is my list what was on yours, or do you have any advice?

4 Day Weekend

We had another funeral on Friday so John took Thursday off and we got a 4 day weekend together! It was sad to see him go this morning, I was getting used to having him around all day. Thursday we spent doing errands, the yard, and spending time with family. Friday we spent the whole day doing funeral stuff and I was    feeling sick. Saturday morning I felt a little better but not good enough to go hiking at Park City like we planned. I refused to sit still while John was home so we went Raspberry picking instead!

It was just this little farm down in Mappleton that is run by this really nice old couple.

We were there for about an hour and a half at 3pm so it was really hot! It reached a record breaking 97 degrees but we still had a good time.

At the farm they have their own bees and there are wasps nests too so it was pretty scary. Those bees and wasps were everywhere!! But we were careful and neither of us got stung.

Doesn't John look happy? He loves his picture taken. We ended up with 4.5 pounds of raspberries, yum! Afterwards we got something to drink, went swimming, ate at Texas Roadhouse, and finished up the night with Hunger Games!! An amazing Saturday if you ask me.

Sunday I felt horrible again but had to teach my primary class so I went to church and ended up making raspberry pie to accompany a delicious dinner John made.

That was our weekend, hope yours went well!

Breakfast

I know I just posted yesterday but today I'm feeling extra productive.

This morning I got up early (because I couldn't sleep) and made John breakfast and it reminded me of how much I love breakfast. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast. John isn't a fan of breakfast for dinner, so on the weekends I take advantage of making breakfast. I'm a fan of almost all breakfast food but these have to be my top favorites (probably the least healthy too).

#1 Hash browns

I'm always up for some hash browns, or basically anything potatoes. I think it might be my salt craving that I've been having while pregnant, but potatoes have always made me happy.

#2 Biscuits and Gravy

This is probably the worst in calories, but if you get a wonderful southern biscuit with country gravy, nothing could be better. After all, everything in moderation right?

#3 French Toast

Not just any french toast, Kneaders french toast! They use cinnamon bread and then give you some caramel sauce and a side of strawberry and cream. Best part is that it is all you can eat, which for me is two pieces.

#4 Cinnamon Rolls/Donuts

Pastries for breakfast are also not the healthiest items but very delicious! Especially if you wake up to the smell of them cooking (which never happens at our house since I'm the one making them).

Is it weird I post so often about food? I really like food!

So what do you eat for breakfast?

Vacation!

I love vacation! As a kid I think my parents spoiled me with vacation every year across the country and across the world as a senior present. Now that I'm married and John has a job we have to be careful about taking days off and of course spending money.

Especially this year with a baby on the way, buying a house, doing a yard and so forth we couldn't afford to take a real vacation. Thankfully, John's parents took us up to Yellowstone for a long weekend, and we are going to attempt to finish the summer with a night at Park City which will be fun. We also took a trip to Las Vegas, but it was for a funeral so I don't think that counts.

But in discussing our vacation plans for the future these are our current top three vacations in the plans!

#1 Alaskan Cruise

This is John's dream vacation that we are actually going to shoot for next summer/fall. I don't really understand going to a winter wonderland during the summer, but I did love the cruise we took for our honeymoon so I assume it will be a blast! Hopefully we don't have very many unexpected expenses next year so we can go!

#2 Hawaii

Thanks to my amazing Grandpa Smith I've been to Hawaii a couple times but poor John has never been able to go. So my dream is to take him to paradise some day. We are going to try and hit this vacation in a couple years.

#3 Brazil

John spent two years in Brazil on his mission and has always wanted to take me there. After hearing some of his stories I'm a little nervous, but he assures me we won't spend time in his mission area. We wouldn't want to take our kids here so it is going to be a while until we get down there, but I know it will be a blast when do make it.

So what are some vacations you would love to take?

Nursery Room!

Debbie, Savana and I got together yesterday and worked all day on this wall.

It all started with inspiration of this website: http://projectnursery.com/2010/08/hip-to-be-square-revisited/

I then picked out 4 colors from the firefighter sheets we got.

Arranged them in a grid pattern that appears random but actually took 3 hours. Next, I made all my measurements and then waited for my backup to arrive. We went out got the paint and started taping!

Original wall

Tape

Tape

and more tape!

Then we started painting.

It only took about 3 coats for each color, but it went fast with 3 people.

Finished product with the tape.

I was so nervous about taking off the tape, so John helped me and started the first piece.

There are a couple of touch up spots but overall I think it looks great don't you?

John says it looks professional and that made me smile.

I plan on doing the rest of the room in the tan color.

Desserts!

Lately it seems like I've had a sweet tooth for anything and everything. I thought if I posted some of my favorites I could find some of yours and eat them too!!

#1 Cheesecake

This is the hardest dessert to love because John is lactose but I still get to have some every once and a while. My exception is chocolate cheesecake, which I'm not a fan of.

#2 Pastry's

I love making Cinnamon rolls, especially with my mom!! But I love all kinds of breakfast pastry, donuts, danish, sweet bread, pull apart bread, and so forth.

#3 Shortbread Cookies

I really like cookies but my favorite is shortbread cookies! The way they melt in your mouth and are made with absolutely nothing healthy!

#4 Almost anything with cream cheese!

Also another downfall of John being lactose, but hey I get by.

These are some of my favorites, what are yours?
