This year for our vacation we decided to go to the Grand Canyon. Thinking of Carter crying in the car for 8 hours doesn't sound very appealing, but we decided to not let Carter stop us from doing things we have wanted to do. Especially since a wonder of the world is within driving distance, we can't pass it up, plus I've always wanted to go.
Activity wise, we have decided not to go water rafting, ride down the canyon on a mule, or hike ten miles to the illusive Havaspai falls (pic below), since Carter is too small, but we are going to have fun regardless!
We plan on doing some short hikes, riding the shuttle, playing in the hotel pool, and just taking it easy. Despite being limited, it is going to be our first family vacation! Desperately excited to see this...
Anyone have a must see?
The Grand Canyon is beautiful! for traveling, just be patient. Sit in back with him to entertain him, let him out of his carseat when you eat, and maybe even drive only at night if he sleeps mostly through the night. My sister travels with her kids at night so that they are sleeping the whole time.

Yes, definitely you should go. It is amazing. Cal, who also lived in Utah for many years has never been there either. How does this happen? I was a poor starving college student and I managed to get there (twice). We are planning to go next spring (2014) if we are not still serving as missionaries, so you will have to tell us the good things to do. I can't really remember back that far to what I did when I was there, but I do remember it was well worth it.
